What better way to marry your partner than in an exotic location on a white sandy beach? For those brave enough to take on the task, a destination wedding can be a wonderful way to say “I do.” Sure, it takes a bit more planning and a bit more traveling, but it will absolutely be a memory to last a lifetime!
A destination wedding is a great way to get away from it all and celebrate with those closest to you. Most people that go this route like to have a small amount of people to share their special day with them. When having a wedding locally, some couples get pressured into having a huge, lavish celebration even when they may not be too interested in one. A beautiful island or far away beach is a great way to enjoy with the important people in your life. Since the planning road may get a bit bumpy for you destination seekers, take a look at some of the tips we put together:
Choose a Destination
The first thing to plan for a destination wedding is, of course, the destination! When picking the perfect venue for your wedding, be sure to find a place that both the bride and groom have been to and enjoy going to. A lot of couples have a favorite vacation spot that they visit annually or from time to time, which can be a great choice to tie the knot. Think of somewhere where you feel most free and where the photos will blow your mind for years to come! Although a destination wedding may sound like a stressful idea, it can actually be less stressful than a traditional wedding. A lot of places offer great deals and packages for those getting married which eliminates a lot of the stress from the planning process.
Destination weddings allow couples to really get creative when thinking of the ideal invitation. Since your guests will have to take a trip to attend your wedding, a fun idea is to send out airplane invites. Your invitations should represent the theme of your wedding and should allow your guests to get a glimpse of what kind it will be. When they open the envelope to see an airplane invite, they’ll know they’re taking a trip somewhere!
If the setting of your wedding is a beach, decorate accordingly so it all flows nicely. Set up a large white tent with space underneath for the DJ, the dance floor, seating, the food and a cocktail area. Also set up a seating area with couches outside the tent for those who want to enjoy the breeze a bit more. The couches will add a chic look to the party and your guests will be thankful for them after a night full of dancing! For the chairs, add drapery to the back of them that match the couches and tent. The all-white look will allow you to put colorful details throughout which will look stunning in photos.
Most couples who have a destination wedding tend to go with a beach theme or have their wedding outdoors on a beach. A nice and simple centerpiece idea is to fill up a glass cylinder or mason jar about half way with sand and place a flower on top. Next to the centerpiece, place a small lit candle to illuminate the setting softly. You can also place some more flowers around the entire centerpiece, matching with the one inside the glass. Here’s another tip – use fake flowers so they don’t wilt with the heat! This centerpiece idea is not only a wonderful touch but can be made on your own which will help not break the bank.
Destination celebrations don’t always end just because the wedding has! Keep the party going by handing out mini tequila bottles to each of your guests. Some may make a vacation out of the trip, leaving them with a couple days to relax and take in the sun. Give them a favor they can put to use while they enjoy the rest of the trip! Attach a ribbon with the wedding date to the bottle along with the bride and groom names.
While planning your destination wedding, remember that all the stressful times will lead to a memorable night for you and your guests!
